Theories (Seattle) tour coming up

OFFICIAL: Only 1 1/2 more months til this absolute BEAST of a tour starts. It's 2016 and "Trends" seem to be all the rage right now and the popularity of Metal is at an all time high, which is weird cause metal used to be extremely underground. Well.... at least Grind is still unpopular and untouched. But sadly, there seems be be fewer and fewer new, current and active grind bands which is lame considering that the West Coast used to be a haven for Grind. While we aren't a Grindcore band by definition we still consider ourselves part of that scene and the bands we have the honor to share the stage with on this tour, Wake and Vermin Womb are prime examples of current and incredible grindcore bands. If you haven't had a chance to see or hear them, this is your chance, DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS!!
See all y'all West Coast, SouthWest, Tijuana, British Columbia and Nevada homies soon!! Do us a solid and share/repost this to help get the word out!!

this past Monday night: black metal in Everett, WA, U.S.: Sarcalogos, Sacrament ov Impurity, Power from Hell

by MMB
Black metal came to Everett, Washington state this past Monday 29th of August at Tony V's. The three bands were: Power from Hell from Brazil, Sacrament ov Impurity from Mount Vernon, Washington and Sarcalogos from the neighboring state of Oregon. All three bands put on a good show and they all sounded good, too. *
*
Sarcalogos is a two-person black metal band. Unfortunately, I do not have good pictures from Monday night's show for Sarcalogos, the band that opened the bill. If you are interested in two-person black metal, check out the band's latest recording at the link below. It is an EP and it is called Echoes of Silence. The picture below is not from the Everett concert. It is from the band's Facebook page. It is included here for references and information purposes only.

Sacrament ov Impurity is a two-person black metal band. At the show they played some new material from the upcoming album The Purest of Sins (I think that this is the name of the album that was announced, if I heard it correctly). Also, their album All the Colors of the Dark is from 2015 and you can hear the recording at the link below. These pictures here are ones that I took at the show. If you are interested in two-person black metal, be sure to listen to this band from Mount Vernon that began in 2007.

Below are some pictures of Power from Hell, a veteran band that has some nine recordings. They delivered a professional performance of Venom-Bathory black thrash black metal in the raw, occult style with a great energy! Really, everything sounded good for them this past Monday night: the heavy bass lines; the fast guitar solos and riffs; the awesome Cronos-Tom G. Warrior-Quorthon style vocals; and the pounding drumming. The audience really enjoyed themselves, including a little, but proud mosh pit that the band loved to see happening. The Hellhammer-Venom-Bathory/black metal-loving crowd loved Power from Hell! Here is a bit of visual evidence. By the way, if you support raw metal music, go their Bandcamp page and listen to them and bang your head!

Morrow (Seattle) has a new single

OFFICIAL: Morrow was born through Trevor Eulau’s love of melodic black metal and post rock, using these genres as his the gateways for his deep melancholic expression. In may of 2015, the Debut EP Forgotten was released which ranged from slow, depressive doom metal, to cascading tremelo picking and blast beated black metal. Trevor then enlisted a full band to extend his vision, and they have released the single “Last Light” in anticipation for the forthcoming full length.
influences: Agalloch, Woods of Desolation, Sacramentum, Lantlos, Wolves in the Throne Room, Joy Division, Alcest, Deafheaven, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Pallbearer, Yob

THESE REVIEWS might be useful to readers new to the sound of Morrow. These reviews come Metal Archives and are included here for purposes of reference and information only.

Morrow is a very new band that has only been in existence since 2015, that is if you disregard the fact the the project functioned under the "Black Tears" moniker. The band hails from Seattle, Washington and is a welcome addition to the ever growing and ever promising USBM that we have today.
Last Light is a single the band released digitally in 2016 and is a great indicator of what's to come from this four member band in the near future. The track spans for a little over 9 minutes and takes you to many places and creates many interesting soundscapes throughout its total run time.
I was greeted with an elegant instrumental passage during the first couple of seconds where the acoustic guitar work is masterfully executed and excels in establishing and air of melancholy and desolation. The listener is then treated to a black metal assault commandeered by raspy vocals that grate against your ear drums. The single takes many shapes and forms throughout its duration and is a definite indicator of the fact that Morrow is headed in the right direction.
The riffing is exceptional and the guitar solos are melodic and adept enough to draw your attention, the vocals are raspy and in your face whilst the drumming is fast and helps give an overall direction to the music. The only downside I see is the production, the instruments should've been balanced better, but I believe that Morrow will get things together on the production front as time goes by.

Man, six or seven years ago this is exactly the sort of stuff I'd lose my **** over. Being the kind of cringe-worthy annoying teen who thought straight ahead black metal was inherently regressive and the more influences outside of black metal the better, I flocked to the kind of bands Morrow are drawing their inspiration from. I still dig the middle three Agalloch albums, the Skagos debut is cool, Fen's first album is legit and the first Altar of Plagues is insanely good, but in general I've really stopped caring about this scene. The whole post-black/cascadian/blackgaze/whatever-the-hell-else sort of scene reached it's peak around 2009 and really, it has stagnated quite a bit in recent years.
So, where does Morrow fit in? Well, they're not particularly original and we've all heard this sort of stuff time and again from black metal's wimpier side, but I have to say there's really an incredible amount of potential to be found with this young band. Their more atmospheric side is generally brilliant, if not occasionally bordering on boring prog. The lead guitar here is incredibly good and the soaring from-the-mountain-tops solo in the middle is absolutely stunning. The more brooding leads are quite evocative too, being reminiscent of early Cormorant. Although there's one pretty good melodic riff, the tremolo riffing is generally earthy and lethargic. It kind of seems like a take on Wolves In The Throne Room without the means to really capture that sort of atmosphere.
They did a good job here, but "Last Light" probably didn't need to be nearly ten minutes. It still looks like they're figuring things out in the songwriting and arrangement department and this was probably a bit too ambitious for where they're at. A 6 minute song would have turned out much better as some sections do drag on too long. Also, the mixing is a bit uneven here. The production sounds pretty sweet for the clean sections, but when the metal kicks in, the guitar gets buried and the reverbed-to-all-hell vocals are a bit too high in the mix.
Criticism aside, this is definitely very promising for such an early release in their discography. While it didn't reignite my love for this type of folky sort-of black metal, I'd be lying if I didn't really enjoy the leads and the clean sections. They do have a ways to go with the black metal, and it falls into the classic trap for this substyle - no real riffs (asides from the aforementioned melodic one). It will be interesting to see where they'll go with a bit more experience under their belt.

VASTUM Declares West Coast North American Tour With Demilich And Hooded Menace Including California Deathfest

OFFICIAL: Following their utterly destructive set at the maiden edition of Migration Fest in Olympia last week, San Francisco death faction VASTUM has declared an upcoming run of Fall tour dates surrounding their set at this year's California Deathfest.
VASTUM will join Demilich and Hooded Menace on a seven-city attack on the West Coast of North America, beginning on October 16th when all three acts take part in the annual California Deathfest in Oakland, the massive event also including Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Angelcorpse, Black Breath, Brujeria, Dead In The Manger, Exhumed, Nuclear Assault, The Ruins of Beverast, Squash Bowels, and many others. Following the festival, the trek will lead VASTUM and their tourmates through San Diego, Los Angeles, Portland, Seattle, Vancouver, and more, with the final details to be confirmed in the days ahead.
VASTUM w/ Demilich, Hooded Menace:
10/16/2016 Oakland Metro - Oakland, CA @ California Deathfest
10/18/2016 The Merrow - San Diego, CA
10/19/2016 Complex - Los Angeles, CA
10/20/2016 TBA
10/21/2016 The Raven - Portland, OR
10/22/2016 Highline - Seattle, WA
10/23/2016 The Red Room - Vancouver, BC
VASTUM's catastrophic third album, Hole Below, was recorded with Greg Wilkinson at Earhammer Studios and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege, and released in November 2015 via 20 Buck Spin. Bleeding six grueling movements which see the band even delivering more densely claustrophobic tonal obliteration while simultaneously unloading top-notch musicianship the album shows a band who has honed their disturbed masochism into a sound manifestly their own and true to the core of the purest, darkest death metal.
Reigning in widespread critical acclaim, Noisey praised, "VASTUM's Hole Below is one of the best death metal albums of the year, if not the genre's absolute pinnacle for 2015... It's creepy, and complex, and utterly engrossing; you'll be hard-pressed to find anything else under the death metal banner that hits quite this hard, even without taking into account the disturbing, cerebral lyrics, which elevate VASTUM to an entirely different level of extremity." Decibel Magazine offers, "...this SF-based quintet lacquers ever time-tested gesture with enough fire to let their intrinsic strangeness shine through," and Invisible Oranges agrees, with, "A sheen of murk keeps the driving riffs just obscure enough to create some atmosphere without making the music incomprehensible."

Two more EPs - Anointed in Blood and Ash and End of Man - and a rare live cassette titled Ceremony of Death prefaced the 2015 release of Infernal Zeal. interview: Ravensire

Ravensire is a traditional heavy metal band from Portugal that began around 2011 or so. In 2012 their first recording was released and it was called Iron Will (EP). Then, in 2013 their debut album We March Forward came out. That year they also did a split recording. More recently, in 2016 the Cruz del Sur Music label put out The Cycle Never Ends, the band’s latest full-length album. As you will read in this interview, they had a clear idea of what type of music they wanted right from the start, and in that respect, The Cycle Never Ends is another chapter in their journey of writing hard-driving, riff-charged classic-style cult heavy metal with big choruses and memorable songs. Their newest album in its entirety is available for listening at the Bandcamp link at the end of the interview.
Your band is new to me! Can you begin by telling us about where you live and how life is for your metal band? How are the metal scenes in your city?
First of all, cheers to Metal Bulletin Zine for this opportunity to let us speak our minds! Well, we’ve all been living here in the Lisbon area all our lives. It’s the capital of our country Portugal and it’s basically the biggest city here with its population of nearly 3 million people living in it’s urban and suburban area. The last 10 years have seen a steady increase in the heavy metal legions. Whereas before that, most people would be into the more extreme metal side or the gothic overtones, these last few years people have started to acknowledge that heavy metal is still a valid proposition. Quite frankly, personally speaking, it’s a bit indifferent to me, as I’ve always liked what I like and don’t need acceptance from the others to continue my path. But in terms of shows, bands and the scene in general, it’s very interesting that local shows that in mid-00’s would draw 50 people (if lucky!), now regularly reach sizes of 100 and maybe more. Also, this increased interest also led to the swelling of the numbers of bands playing heavy metal. If you want to dig a bit into our underground, I suggest you look for bands like Midnight Priest, The Unholy, Inquisitor, Wanderer, Cruz de Ferro, Attick Demons, Deadlyforce, Shivan, Leather Synn, Perpetratör and the veterans Alkateya and Filii Nigrantium Infernalium, just to name a few.
I live in the Seattle area, which has the reputation of being rainy and grey. How is Lisbon right now in the summer time? I recently saw a video that said that Portugal has great beaches. Is that true, in your opinion? We don’t have real beaches here in this area. We have forests and cold rivers!
It’s scorching hot! This last few weeks (since late June, actually) the temperatures have risen regularly to 35-40ºC [95-104 Farenheit] and sometimes even more. Yes, we have lots of beaches, but sometimes it’s so hot that being on the beach is no real relief! I would gladly trade a 40ºC beach for a nice coldish mountain, with a fresh stream running by. In any case, if some of you might want to come by looking for great sea and maritime views, I recommend you the Sagres - Lagos area (Southwest Portugal) for great beaches with crystalline waters, some of them still untouched by the tourism plague that destroyed so many interesting places around here.
Can you tell us about the history of your band? Who are the members of the band?
Although Ravensire started “officially” in 2011, I (Nuno - guitars) was thinking about doing a band like this for quite some time. The problem I always faced was the lack of like-minded individuals to pursue this “orthodox” heavy metal approach. Around 2005, I talked to Rick (bass and vocals) about these ideas and he told me he would be up to it, as he was also thinking about doing a thrash metal side project. So we started jamming on both this “orthodox” metal ideas and his thrash project. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen life events, things had to be put on ice for quite some time. Fast forward 5 years, and I start talking to F (drums) about my ideas for the band. Since we used to jam a bit (back then he was playing guitar), I showed him my riffs and songs and he liked them very much and asked why I wasn’t putting a proper band. I told him that I hadn’t yet found a drummer who was in the same wavelength as I was, so right there and then he volunteered to learn how to play drums! And so he did! And he also found a place to rehearse. So that was basically the kickstart of Ravensire. We started rehearsing the songs, but we still lacked a vocalist and, ideally, another guitarist. So I asked a veteran of our scene Zé Gomes (he recorded a demo in the 80s with his old band Wild Shadow) if he wanted to give it a go. He agreed to attend our rehearsals to see if he liked our stuff, and along with him came Zé Rockhard on the guitars. And that’s how it all started! We recorded our first mini-CD “Iron Will” one year later and after the mini-CD was released, Zé Gomes had to leave due to some personal issues. Instead of looking for a singer outside of the band, I challenged Rick to try to sing. He had such a great voice, that we looked no further. With this stable line-up, we spent the next few years rehearsing, releasing our two albums (“We March Forward” and “The Cycle Never Ends”) and playing live. Unfortunately, after the release of the last album, Zé Rockhard also had to leave the band, so we ended up welcoming Mário as our new guitar player. Right now we’re playing a few live shows and soon we’ll start working on new songs, since some ideas are already floating!
I have read that some people think that your music (maybe not the vocals) is a bit like old Manowar. Do you agree?! How do you see or understand the music that you make nowadays in 2016? Do you consider your band old-school heavy metal?
We make the kind of music that we love as metal fans. In my view, as long as you like what you’re listening to, things will always be relevant! I don’t follow that line of thought that says that heavy metal (call it “old-school” if you like) has stagnated and is no longer creative. Take a look at blues, jazz or even classical Music. There’s still stuff being played in those styles that are true to the roots and the true fans still enjoy and don’t complain about “originality” or the need to expand the sound. That’s my view towards heavy metal. Ok, there are bands that incorporate external influences and go on a different path. They’re entitled to it. But a) does it make sense keep calling it metal when at some point it has nothing in common? And b) why should the core genre heavy metal be dismissed or ridiculed? So, for me, I don’t mind that there are bands sounding like the old heavy metal heroes. As long as they’re not ripping off anyone and incorporate their own personality into the music they play, I’ll back them up! Look at us, for example. We certainly draw influences from Manowar, Iron Maiden, or contemporary bands like Slough Feg, Solstice, etc. But when you listen to our songs, you’re not thinking (at least I hope! ahaha) “oh, this riff is from that Manowar song… Oh that bridge is identical to that Iron Maiden tune”. We have our own personality and that’s how it goes.
I have been listening to your new album. Where can people hear your new music? What can you tell us about where you recorded it and what the listener can expect? How was the experience of recording the new album?
The best place for people to have a concrete idea on how we sound like is probably our Bandcamp page. All our releases are streaming there and everyone can listen to all our songs and decide if we’re worthy or not. Our first releases up until “We March Forward” were recorded on our rehearsal space. We’d setup the studio with our producer and great friend Paulo Vieira, and proceeded to record the albums free of time constrains and using all our gear. Unfortunately, in 2014 we had to leave that space and start rehearsing in studios so, when the time came to record the new album, we had to rent a proper studio to record some of the instruments (drums and vocals, mainly). Although the overall sound didn’t suffer from this new arrangement, it made the process less cheap, that’s for sure! Regarding the album itself, it took a longer time recording than we initially expected. We started the drums in the first few days of May, but only finished everything in September. There were a lot of schedule problems with everyone involved, so at one point things were dragging a lot. Nevertheless, we took these “off times” to listen to what was being recorded and see if anything could be improved. In the end, all was cool since the album came out exactly how we wanted.
How would describe your previous music in relation to your new album? Has your band always sounded in the same style?
I think that “The Cycle Never Ends” is a logic continuation of “We March Forward”. It’s pretty much the same style and the songs flow naturally from one album to the other. As for the first mini-CD “Iron Will”, that’s where you’ll find something slightly different, mainly due to Zé “Mastercrow” Gomes vocal approach. His vocals were much more gritty and “in-your-face”, which also led to the compositions being a bit more crude, too. All in all, it was basically a different, valid aspect to our general sound. But since then, it’s true we’ve explored a more melodic and structured side to our music, without losing our raw, passionate feeling.
What type of lyrics is important to your band and what type of lyrics do you think work well with your music? Currently, in parts of Europe, it seems like terrorist attacks have put some people put on edge, on high alert. What are your views on this issue?
In Ravensire we mostly deal with topics revolving around mythology, history, fantasy and even a bit of sci-fi / horror and we also like to mix it all up. We have lyrics like, for example, “Crosshaven” or the “White Pillars” trilogy where the historical facts are mixed with some mythology and/or fantasy to spice things up. One thing we haven’t done, and I don’t think we will, is writing about current events in a direct way. We all have so many problems going on with our daily lives, that we feel that Ravensire should act as a form of escapism and diversion to all our everyday grudges. We prefer to recite tales of woe and bravery, so that people might feel somewhat empowered to go on with their lives with their heads raised high. Regarding terrorism, it is what it is. Fanatics carrying out dirty deeds in favour of other people’s agendas. Comes in all shapes and colours and everywhere in the world. Unfortunately, innocent people have to die, and the truly guilty go on living below the radar.
By the way, in your own experience, what does your family or what do your friends or your band mates think of the terrorist attacks taking place in Europe? What are your views for the situation in Portugal?
To be quite honest, here in Portugal terrorism is not a thing that we’re particularly concerned. Unless, of course, we’re talking about other types of “terrorism” like government policies, EU policies and so on. We’ve just been through a major economic crisis (probably still are), with lots of austerity measures going on for quite a few years, impovering most of the population. That has had a much more profound impact on everyone than some lunatic deciding to blow himself up, which, by the way, hasn’t happened here. I think at some point things have to be put on perspective. Being brutally honest, for me it’s much worse having people in charge that are corrupt and downright lie to the ones that elect them. As for the terrorists, be it from the Middle-East, Far-East, Western countries, North American countries, South American countries, white, brown, black, red, yellow, they could all get together, do some kind of symposium where they would demonstrate in a lively manner how to blow themselves up and, if possible, invite the overlords and politicians above them for that demonstration. Luckily there would be no one left in the end and we all might live better off.
Metal bands often sound angry, cynical and generally negative. Then, the writers use similar language to describe the bands; reviewers says that a band is “violent” or “evil” or “perverted” or “sick” and things like that, as good characteristics. So, tell me, since metal seems so pessimistic, what are some things that you like about your life?! Do you have kids? Do you have hobbies that help you stay sane in an insane world? What are some wonderful things about life in your city or in Portugal in general?
I don’t think metal is pessimistic. I think it’s more of a catharsis on the mundane life most of us have to endure. Some consider it merely a hobby. I like to think that more than a hobby, metal is something that completes me as a person. It’s part of who I am. Of course, this doesn’t mean that we live in a fantasy world where Satan roams around sacrificing virgins, while Sigurd (check the lyrics to “Blood and Gold” from our album) continues his journey to the promised land, conquering and pillaging all the infidels from here to eternity. We all have jobs, families, I have a 13 yo kid. I do have some hobbies, too. I like to travel a lot, not only in Portugal, but also wherever I can go. My latest trip was to Poland, where I spent a week in Krakow. Amazing town! I also enjoy a lot being by the sea (except when it’s 40ºC), and eating Portuguese seafood as it’s one of the greatest things you can do, if you come around! Just beware of diarrhea haha! But with all the things someone can do with his free time, nothing beats the kick of playing live in front of a live audience that’s into the band!
Do you have some plans that you would like to tell us about?
Right now we’re basically playing some live shows to promote the album. When things settle down around October, we’ll begin working on new songs as the new ideas are starting to mature and it’s time for everyone to start working on the arrangements. If all goes well, in 2017 there will be a new album, although that’s not mandatory because we’ll only commit to release something when we feel the songs are up to our standard of “quality” (however low it may be). As we say on this album: the cycle never ends!

PSYCHOPRISM – lyric video "Creation" (PURE STEEL RECORDS)

Here is the lyric video for the band Psychoprism from the U.S. This band is recommended for the really dedicated listeners into traditional high and super high singing and shredding/arpeggio/neoclassical/soloing and the traditional/progressive genre. Below is some official information about the band.
Psychoprism
Creation
release date: July 22nd, 2016
label: Pure Steel Records
OFFICIAL: Pure Steel Records are proud to finally be able to present a US metal band in the classical sense again. Finally there is a glimmer of hope in the starving territory of the most beautiful music that gave us the last over thirty years of Heavy Metal. Finally, the listener can bang his head to shredding guitars, cheer chants which contain amazing highs and lows and thereby enjoy a musical heaviness that is second to none. The New York / New Jersey band PSYCHOPRISM makes all this possible. On their debut record ("Creation") they present the true mix of heavy metal. From fast power metal songs about real hymns ('Chronos') to powerful ballads ('Friendly Fire') the material contains everything the heart of the banger pleased. The guitars shred like in their best times late 80s and the music is more than just a wet dream for anyone who has viewed the crowning of US Metals in such glorious groups like CRIMSON GLORY, LORDBANE and QUEENSRYCHE. From the first note to the last, a non stop musical adventure. Absolutely glorious.

Medevil - Nightwalk (Official Music Video)

Medevil
Conductor of Storms
Self-Release
Release: 26 August 2016
Medevil is a new band from Canada. Their sound is mostly traditional heavy metal or forms close to that. Their debut album is now out and below you can hear two tracks from it.
OFFICIAL: It is one of the most magical moments in a band’s life when they release their debut album. We can only imagine what Kerry King and Tom Araya felt like on the eve of ‘Show No Mercy’ being unleashed on the world, or the excitement that must have coursed through Steve Harris and Dave Murray as their self-titled debut was about to escape into an unsuspecting and never to be the same again world.
Well, Medevil don’t just imagine it…their debut album ‘Conductor of Storms’ is about to explode in a blast of metallic thunder and lightning upon the earth.
Hailing from Chiliwack, BC, Medevil are a hard-working progressive band, constantly striving to improve their songs, a fact not missed by Wacken Metal Battle Canada, where Medevil made the top 6!
Band vocalist Liam Collingwood explains the band’s memorable moniker. ‘The band name was thought up by Eric and fits our style of music perfectly.’
Liam is very serious about the bands modus operandi. ‘Medevil formed as a creative outlet for each member. The goal of our band is to satisfy our creative desires, while maintaining our standard of quality and to expand our knowledge of music as a whole. In five words, I’d sum up our music as power/thrash/prog/heavy metal.’
Liam says if he had to pick one Medevil track to represent the band it would be ‘the song ‘Machination Factory’ as it is one of the heavier songs on the album and it’s also the newest song that we wrote so it’s fresher in our heads. We wanted to release something first that would be a good start at representing our band even though future songs may.’
Liam reveals that song-writing is very much a collaborative effort. ‘We normally have a bunch of riff ideas ourselves and then we all come together to complete our vision…We all take part in the writing. All the songs have some sort of collaboration going on, even though some may be very minor alterations. We try to collaborate on projects as much as possible without destroying the original vision.’
While the band collaborates strongly on the music, the lyrics are Liam’s department, as you’d expect. ‘Lyrics are normally written based on an emotion or a story I am thinking of at the time that I want to project. Although sometimes I have some melodies in my head that I really like which I try to put into my lyrics. Some songs are more about a story I am telling whether fictional or somewhat true. Others are about a feeling or emotion I am feeling at the time and can be hidden beneath metaphors.’
Liam is proud that Medevil have a high level of quality control when it comes to their music. ‘In total we probably scrapped eight songs in favour of the ones included on the album. Our early sound, from 2011-2014, was mostly a rock-esque type of metal. ‘In The Distance’, ‘The Angel of Rain’ and ‘A Sacrifice’ are all from the early days of the band. When we included Brett and Gary in the band in 2014, we started leaning towards a much faster and more progressive style.’
A similar level of thought went into the track listing. ‘The track listing was a long task, it was most decided based on what we thought was the best listening experience for our fans and for how we like to set up our live shows with some changes. Fans can expect new material in the coming years and regular tours once or twice a year.’
Liam rates the bands live show highly. ‘People can expect a refined sound from us as well as a powerful energy, and a good connection between the band members. Fans can tell we are a band of friends!’
Liam reveals that the letter ‘M’ is very significant in Medevil’s top five influences, which are ‘Metalica, Megadeth, Mastodon, Metal Church, and Iron Maiden!’
And now we can add Medevil to that proud list of bands beginning with M who all released powerful a debut album.

SODOM - "Caligula" (Official Lyric Video)

Thrash band Sodom (Germany) now have their 15th album Decision Day ready to go. Ever the constant and reliable group, the new album continues cementing the already established legacy of one the major thrash bands on the international scenes. Listen to a track from Decision Day below.
OFFICIAL: Tom Angelripper is proud and excited to announce the release of the new Sodom album Decision Day for August 26th 2016. Together with his two comrades-in-arms, guitarist Bernemann and drummer Markus "Makka" Freiwald, Angelripper spent four months at the studio honing the new Sodom material. The result is a hard-as-nails, diverse thrash metal offering on the subject of D-Day, the day in June 1944 when the troops of the Western Allied forces landed in Normandy to liberate mainland Europe from the scourge of Nazi Germany. Songs such as ´Belligerence`, ´Decision Day` and ´Strange Lost World` present the Sodom frontman once more as a historically well-versed contemporary witness and critical observer of current international events. Decision Day was produced by Cornelius ´Corny` Rambadt, sound engineer and drummer with Angelripper's side project Onkel Tom.
The new release is bound to cause a stir, not least thanks to its impressive artwork courtesy of none other than Joe Petagno. As well as having worked for Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, Petagno is also Motörhead's favoured graphic designer and has created legendary album covers such as Overkill, Orgasmatron and Another Perfect Day. Angelripper: "I was surprised and proud to learn how familiar Joe is with Sodom, immediately bringing up associations of our ´Knarrenheinz` when we talked about the artwork. For a Motörhead fan like myself, this cover is an absolute dream come true." Petagno: "After having spoken with Tom about the current state of world affairs and heard some brilliant tracks from the album I wanted to visualize the History of Man from the dawn of creation to the mess we have today. Firstly and rather obviously it's World War 3. However on psychological and symbolic level it's considerably more. I used Knarrenheinz as a symbol for the countless numbers who have soldiered on thru' the centuries in one guise or another just to get us here anno 2016 where we seem to be on the brink of another possible eruption."

oh, no, thrashers Ghostblood have new single! run away, fool, run away!

"Ghostblood went to a party last Saturday night, they didn't get laid, they got in a fight, uh, huh, it ain't no big thing.
Late for their gig and the traffic was bad, got ride from the only friend they ever had, so Lita drove them to the show in a Ford pickup, uh, huh, it ain't no big thing."
The trash-talking, bug-eating kings of comedy gore thrash metal (it's a new Seattle genre thing, you wouldn't understand) have inexplicably recorded a new song and it's called Eviscerama (yes, like Bananarama). These cats dress in white sneakers because they are waiting for the day that they will meet John Petrucci in the worm-infested, slimy, crime-ridden, dumpster-divers-dominated streets of Seattle's Clyde Hill or Medrona Waterfront and they are going to tell him what is what with their sneakers in John's favorite body parts. After they give him a piece of their mind they will make him listen to their new song Eviscerama on repeat for six minutes or maybe even nine minutes and he will know what Ghostblood's "gore-splattered ghostly thrash-blackening death-blood" is all about.
In case you do not know this, when you talk about Ghostblood you are supposed to reveal if you know the band or not. Well, I do not know them and I have never met them or attended one of their many shows in the Seattle region, but just you wait, one day I will go to one of their shows! Ghostblood, I'm not done with you! In the interest of even fuller disclosure, this zine must reveal that Ghostblood sent in a copy of their new single and I am keeping in a safe vault because one day my grandkids are going to ask, "Grandma, what bands from Seattle do you like?" and I will show them that I have cds from Ghostblood. If I ever catch them listening to pop music I will grab their phones and throw them in the pool (the phones, not the kids, you sicko) and play them Ghostblood music on my boombox because I actually have one (a tiny one from the 1970s or 80s or one of those decades from a long time ago) and they will not dare be sour and they will feel the power and they will clap for the three-time world gore champions Ghostblood and it will be a new day in gore thrash and I will body slam them (the kids, not the phones because the phones will be in the pool, and you can't body slam a phone, anyway, are you keeping up?!) in the huge bouncy house that's in the backyard!
Ghostblood is back! (Well, sort of, they never go away.)
You listen, and you listen good now. You gonna be blind in Texas, blind in London, blind in Snohomish County, WA (yeah, that's real place, a place of high per capita horse ownership, too).

NEWS: Infernal Diatribe

NEWS:
Infernal Diatribe (Kolkata, India)
Videha Mukti
Release Date - June 20th, 2016
Record Label - Transcending Obscurity Distribution
This one is for the souls and hearts of occult black metal. Whether it is new listeners into the craft or the experienced audiences, as long as there is a passion for black metal and its allegiance, this Indian formation is definitely one to hear. This is apparently their first recording, at least that's what Metal Archives says, but they seem and sound devoted to their art already, as this is no rehearsal cassette tape demo. It is true that it is only an EP, but it's a promising one: traditional black metal in spirit, with an emphasis on songs that make an impression as songs, not just as fast or as a genre qualifier. It is only EP, and the cynics say that every band has a few goods songs in them, but let's not get pessimistic at the start. Acquaint yourself with two (out of four) songs at the link below, consider their worthiness or not, their value or their lack thereof, but give it some time and let it sink in, maybe come back to it, and reevaluate. It does sound promising, doesn't it? Let's give them a chance with this EP, and let's make a mental list of black metal bands from India to watch out for and let's see where things stand later on when they unleash a full-length album. There will be more to comment, enjoy, critique or reject then. For now, bang your head!
OFFICIAL: Infernal Diatribe, hailing from Kolkata, India, have taken the torch from Heathen Beast in further propagating the sound of black metal from the country. Along with significant albums released by Toxoid and Diabolus Arcanium, they're at the foremost where the black metal scene in India is currently poised. Playing vicious and ambitious occult black metal, this quintet is all set to unleash their underground assault on unsuspecting ears worldwide. The band have worked tremendously hard on making this debut, their dream, a reality and armed with a deal with Transcending Obscurity Distribution, one can expect the band moving out of their home base to play other cities, and hopefully, other countries as well. Nonetheless, there's little to stop their blackened spiritual attack. Superbly composed songs with an underlying dark Indian theme forms the crux of the band's music. The whole affair reeks of spiritual indulgences, the left hand path and its fatal implications this side of the world, as the band tells us about the aghori path of moksha aka spiritual enlightenment.
